Greenland ice sheet surface energy budget modeling using Polar WRF and MODIS

Jason Box, The Ohio State Universoty, Columbus, OH; and D. H. Bromwich

This study evaluates the spatial and temporal patterns in absorbed solar radiation and other surface energy and mass budget components. Polar WRF regional climate model simulated downward solar irradiance data are incorporated with MODIS data define surface albedo. Associated ice melt quantities are estimated. Inter-annual anomalies in factors that influence surface absorbed solar radiation: surface albedo, precipitation, surface melt intensity, are investigated. Recent climate anomalies are interpreted and discussed.
