Oceanic Internal Waves off Bay of Bengal

In Bay of Bengal, oceanic subsurface phenomena of internal waves are frequently evidenced on onboard Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) of Envisat, ERS 1& 2. More than twenty SAR image profiles are demoed surface manifestations of internal waves during 1993 to 2004 in almost all seasons. Shelf-crossing rank ordered packets of non-linear internal waves often revealed in North Bay of Bengal (16-220N, 83-900E) during summer months. In stratified waters, shelf crossing prominent surface signatures of internal waves are revealed on ERS 1&2 of 12th and 13th April 1996. Strong manifestations of internal waves propagating towards the shelf from a distant, deep source and separate into non-linear solutions on Envisat ASAR of Image Mode on 4th October 2003 are studied. Contrasting to all, Enivsat ASAR wide swath image on 18th February 2004, a distinct off shore moving large crest length and larger wavelength internal wave packet was feted. In this research authors also made an attempt to find hotspots of oceanic internal and compare with insitu observations in Bay of Bengal by SAR image profiles.
