We have investigated,in the framework of some classical quasi-geostrophic circulation models in closed basins with angular points on the boundary, the validity of the quasi-geostrophic approximation in the proximity of these points. The analysis has been analitically carried out by a local approximation of the stream-function. Furthermore,a comparison of the analytical results with a numerical simulation of the flows by a finite element method has been performed. Common conclusions have been obtained for a large class of quasi-geostrophic flows.
