September 7, 2009 Souther South America Severe Storms Outbrake: High Resolution Simulation of Mesoscale Convective Systems

Vagner Anabor, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Su, Brazil; and E. de Lima Nascimento and E. Dal Piva

In 2009, 7 september a Mesosale Covective System of meso-β(~200-2000km) scale developed it self for more than 18h between South Rio Grande do Sul State and South Paraguay, having its evolution characterized by the appearing of new convective cells upstream of the low level flow. During its evolution many Severe Weather events were reported and documented by governmental agencies. The aim of this study is to evaluate WRF model performance, as a tool capable to represent meso-γ(~2-20km) phenomena as Microbursts, Tornadoes, etc, usually present in Souther South America Severe Weather events.
