Climate Change and Bioatmospheric Sciences (including Agricultural and Forest Meteorology): Temptations, Responsibilities, and Advances

A new micrometeorological eddy-covariance related method is presented. The statistical method has many features in common with conventional Reynolds decomposition. Sonic anemometers and infrared gas analyzers were placed over bare soil, short weed cover, maize canopies at various stages of growth, and the 65 m tall Wind River Canopy Crane forest. Biomicrometeorological 10-20 Hz data of the velocity and scalar fields from these experiments were analyzed using conventional eddy-covariance, surface renewal, and the new method. In general, the comparison shows the methods are compatible, All methods will still have limitations under low turbulence conditions as has been previously identified by many researchers.
