Eric Rogers, NOAA/NCEP/EMC, College Park, MD; and G. J. DiMego

The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) numerical modeling suite has evolved over the years to encompass a wide range of applications, including global, regional, and mesoscale analyzes and forecasts, ocean modeling, air quality/dispersion prediction, and seasonal climate forecasts. An overview of the NCEP numerical modeling will be presented, which will include 1) the historical development of the various model suites over the years; 2) a discussion of the current NCEP forecast and data assimilation systems, and their interdependence, 3) recent and planned enhancements to NCEP model physics/dynamics, data assimilation, and ensemble forecasting.
