Study on impacts of local wind and terrain on wildfire

The wildfire is effected by many factors, in which the wind and terrain are more important. In a mountainous forest area, the local wind field becomes very complex. Local wind and varied terrain make fire behavior more complicated to be predicted.

In this paper, some simulation experiments of local wind above several kinds of terrain model are carried out in the wind tunnel. And some fire spread experiments have been done on an experimental fuel bed with an adjustable slope, under the conditions of different wind velocities and topographic gradients.

Through analyzing the results of theoretical model, numerical calculation and experimental simulation, the paper has obtained some characteristic about the impacts of local wind and terrain on wildfire, which may be helpful to fire behavior assessment and prediction.
