Byunghyun Song, Korea Meteorological Administration, Meteorological Research Institute, Seoul, South Korea; and S. O'Donnell, S. Cheong, Y. Lee, F. Moeng, J. Nam, and S. Chung

This paper presents the results of the detection and forecast performance of the Storm Cell Identification and Tracking (SCIT) algorithm, which has been applied to storm data collected during spring and summer 2003 in South Korea. The SCIT algorithm is a storm centroid tracking algorithm included in the Open Radar Product Generator (ORPG) software of the WSR-88D Build. The lifetime and significant features of these storms are presented along with the SCIT algorithm's ability to detect and track them. The results of the algorithm's performance in detecting and tracking storms are also compared to improvements in radar data quality.
