Measurements of Saharan Dust Aerosols in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands during March 2003

Vernon R. Morris, Howard University, Washington, DC; and L. Roldan

Gran Canaria in Canary Islands is located off the West coast of Africa and is subject to the brunt of very intense Saharan dust storms throughout the year. During March 2003 size and mass distributions of aerosols at Telde, on the eastern coast of Gran Canaria at El Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Gran Canaria in Canary Islands using a Laser Particle counter (LPC) and a Quartz-Crystal Microbalanced (QCM)Cascade Impactor. These measurements have been analyzed for the influences of the trailing edge of a Saharan Dust storm on ambient aerosol distributions. .
