The Role of Government in Meteorological and Oceanographic Education
Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Faye W. McCollum, AMS/Atmospheric Resource Agent, Columbus, GA
Education Programs, sponsored by governmental agencies such as NOAA, the National Weather Service, the American Red Cross, and the Federal Emergency Management Association provide exciting opportunities to promote understanding of meteorological and oceanographic concepts. These publications, web sites, programs and reference materials are key components of government interaction with students, teachers and the general public.

This program will showcase The Owlie Skywarn Weather Book, one of the most successful publications produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration. Activities, web sites and information on preparedness for floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms and lightning will be emphasized. Meteorological and oceanographic materials and their availability will also be addressed.
