Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)

A rigorous and routine validation process is essential in order to ensure that satellite Sea Surface Temperature (SST) retrievals are accurate. One important component of this validation process is an automated SST-buoy/ship match-up database system. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has developed an automated match-up system which has been operational for a number of years. A version of this match-up system currently utilizes Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data and has been updated to include the MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) SST data as well as added capability for future satellite systems. This paper describes updates to this automated match-up system and includes comparisons between data sources.
