PCGRIDDS-Really getting your hands dirty in the data!
205 (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Greg Fishel, WRAL-TV, Raleigh, NC
Many broadcast meteorologists attend meetings and workshops, and presentations are made that include meteorological data fields that are not routinely available through their data vendors. Thus, much of what they learn is never put to use because of the difficulty of viewing these data fields on a routine basis. There are several sophisticated data display systems available, but many are not Windows based. PCGRIDDS, a DOS based system has been around for about a decade, but was often laborious to use. Now, a Windows based version is evolving, which will make it much easier for broadcast meteorologists to look at these advanced fields on a daily basis. Instructions will be given on how to download and set up this program, as well as how to get the data. Then, examples of actual data displays will be shared, along with suggested applications.
