The GOES-R ground segment project update

Vanessa Griffin, NOAA/NESDIS, Greenbelt, MD

2008 has been a very busy year for the GOES-R Program and the GOES-R Ground Segment Project. The contract to develop, integrate, test, and operate the GOES-R Ground Segment was awarded to the Harris Corporation, Melbourne FL in May 2008. The Harris team is off to a very fast start in developing the development schedule and baselining the system requirements. In addition to the main contract, the NOAA has initiated acquisitions for the remaining pieces of the ground system including the Antenna Systems, the GOES-R Access Subsystem (GAS), and the GOES-R Remote Backup Facility. The GOES-R Ground Segment Project Manager will provide an update of the status of the ground system development activity, provide an overview of the ground system architecture and discuss the upcoming series of technical and programmatic reviews.
