Data Archival—Meeting the Needs of Future Generations
Room 348/349 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Heather B. Brown, NOAA/NESDIS/NCDC, Asheville, NC

The National Climatic Data Centers (NCDC) goal is to meet the demand of today's exponential growth of projects and datasets. NCDC uses a well-defined, standards-based approach for the archiving process to support the full spectrum of data and to improve data access and understanding for users. Accuracy is key in order to preserve a complete understanding of the data so that future users can fully use the data independent of producer assistance. This presentation will navigate through the details of the archival process: Approval, Documentation, and Implementation to assist the producer(s) of data in the process and to ensure the integrity and long-term preservation at NCDC.
