The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System II (AWIPS II) is undergoing Operational Field Testing. AWIPS II will be deploying through the fall 2012. We will discuss the near term roadmap for continuous improvement of the AWIPS II framework. We will highlight the technical capabilities to be developed over the next 12 to 24 months. Included in this overview will be the light client integration, the smart data distribution capability, GIS collaboration, user interface improvements, GIS data operations, and migrating to 64bit computing. Capabilities that are a little further out are GOES-R exploitation, transitioning to cloud computing, transitioning to a highly scalable data repository, and hot deployable plug-ins.
