2011 Tornado Warning Performance
Hall E (New Orleans Convention Center )
John T. Ferree, NOAA/NWS, Norman, OK

Unfortunately, 2011 saw the greatest number of tornado deaths since official record keeping started in 1950. As of the writing of this abstract in early August, there had been 549 deaths directly related to 56 killer tornadoes. A review of the tornado warnings for the 2011 killer tornadoes showed excellent accuracy and lead time. Graphics of the warning polygons, damage paths and the location of fatalities give specific insights into the warning performance for these major events.
