Collaboration and consistency have been the hallmark of the unified Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS) led by the Houston Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU). Since 2013, the Houston CWSU guided the effort to create a coordinated forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) with the help of Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) and the Aviation Weather Center who share airspace responsibilities within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) in Houston, Texas.

This unified IDSS provided aviation-centric Decision Support Services (DSS) for numerous high impact events, such as, the annual Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, 2016 NCAA Final Four in Houston, Texas, and Super Bowls 47 and 51 respectively in New Orleans, Louisiana and Houston, Texas. These efforts showcased the NWS’ ability to share resources and develop event-driven services which meet the demand by our FAA customers across the nation.
