Nowcasting at KMA with non-NEXRAD Radars
Scott D O'Donnell, NOAA/NWS/MDL, CIRA, Boulder, CO; and S. H. Cheong, D. S. N. Oh, F. Moeng, S. B. Smith, and M. T. Filiaggi
In a collaborative project between the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) and NWS' Modernization Development Laboratory (MDL), the authors have completed the second of a three phase project to adapt the MDL AWIPS application, System for Convection Analysis and Nowcasting (SCAN), to KMA’s Forecaster’s Analysis System (FAS). FAS is an AWIPS-like weather data analysis workstation.

The project integrates KMA's non-NEXRAD weather surveillance radars with radar product generation to generate the NEXRAD radar products required by SCAN. The authors will discuss the progress of this innovative project, the hurdles the authors have overcome to meet project goals.
