Buoyant plumes in a cross flow: Numerical simulations and laboratory experiments

Philip Cunningham, Florida State Univ., Tallahassee, FL

Buoyant plumes are important in a wide variety of geophysical and engineering problems. We describe very-high-resolution numerical simulations and laboratory experiments in an effort to gain insight into the fundamental dynamical processes associated with bouyant plumes, focusing primarily on situations involving a cross flow.
