Seventh International Conference on School and Popular Meteorological and Oceanographic Education

P1.19

The Royal Meteorological Society's educational activities

Malcolm Walker, Royal Meteorological Society, Reading, United Kingdom

This poster presentation will focus upon the various ways and means which are currently being used by the Education Committee of the Royal Meteorological Society to promote school and popular meteorological education, considering particularly the Committee's niche in the world of meteorological education and its strategic aims and objectives for the period 2003-2008. The activities include some which are continuations of ways and means which have been used for some years, along with others which are new initiatives. The former include short residential courses, lectures on “hot topics”, online projects such as MetLinkInternational and workshops on meteorological good practice in the field. The latter include the production of materials for schoolteachers, especially for purposes of continuing professional development. They also include the production of PowerPoint presentations which can be used by schoolteachers and others who wish to give talks on a variety of subjects. The materials for teachers are being produced in partnership with other interested bodies.
