Modeling fire risk in post fuels treatment areas

Reducing fire risk through fuels treatments is a key component of the National Fire Plan. At Whiskeytown NRA an extensive and aggressive fuels treatment program is currently being implemented. How effective is the program in reducing fire risk? Is there an effective method to evaluate fire risk in treated areas? By modeling post treatment fire behavior using FARSITE and fire severity mapping, Whiskeytown can evaluate the effectiveness of fuels treatments, and use this information for future planning. Modeling post treatment fire behavior will enable Whiskeytown, and other fire management entities, to strategically plan and implement National Fire Plan projects. .
