Submitting an Abstract Online

The fast way:
Ignore the instructions.
Just click on the "New Abstract" button and you'll be told what to do.

You may click your browser's "Back" button at any time to return to the previous page. You can also return to these instructions at any time by clicking the words "How to submit an abstract" in the left frame.

The methodical approach: If you really want to know in advance what will happen, then read the detailed instructions below. You will find that there are five steps:
Step 1 -- ClickNEW ABSTRACT button
Step 2 -- SubmitTITLE information
Step 3 -- SelectTOPIC or symposium
Step 4 -- IdentifyAUTHOR(S)
Step 5 -- SubmitTEXT
Read on if you like, or try Step 1 now and see how it goes.

If you get stuck on one of the steps, then come back to these instructions for a few tips and tricks.

Step 1 -- Click the New Abstract button

Are you submitting a new abstract? If so, look at the frame to the left of this note and click the New Abstract button.

Two things will happen:

Are you trying to continue or to correct an abstract submission? If so, look in the frame to the left of this note and click the Retrieve Abstract button

Do you already see the Abstract Control Panel to the left of this note? If so, click the appropriate link:

Step 2 -- Submit Title Information

Enter the information requested on the Title Information sheet.: Then click the "Submit Information" button at the bottom of that sheet..

Within a few seconds you will receive confirmation of the information submitted and instructions on what to do next.  Soon thereafter the "Abstract Control Panel" in the left frame will be updated to show new actions now available.

Step 3 -- Select Topic or Symposium

Whether you have been invited to submit a paper for a particular symposium, or you are volunteering a paper, click the TOPIC link in the Abstract Control Panel. From the Topic Selection Sheet, select the appropriate symposium or topic. Then click the "Submit Information" button at the bottom of that sheet.

Step 4 -- Identify Authors

Click the "Add New Author" link that now appears under the AUTHOR(S) heading of the Abstract Control Panel. Fill in the requested information on the Author Information Sheet. Then click the "Submit Information" button at the bottom of that sheet.

Repeat the process if there is more than a single author.

Complete contact information is required for the principle author. Please provide at least an email address for co-authors. One author should be identified as the presenting author, and complete contact information should be provided for that person.

Step 5 -- Submit Text

Click the "TEXT" link that now appears in the Abstract Control Panel. Specify any special formats -- subscripts, superscripts, italics, Greek letters or special symbols, tables, or images -- that might be included in the text of the abstract. Based on those specifications, you will be given appropriate instructions and forms for actually submitting the text.
You will receive confirmation of your submission at each step. Take note of the abstract ID number and password assigned to your submission. With that information you can return to this page if you lose your Internet connection, or if you must interrupt the submission process, or if you would like to modify your submission at any time prior to the deadline.

Ask for help if you run into any problems.  Report a technical problem by clicking on that link in the abstract control panel. If you need help urgently, call 401-334-0220.  Please specify the meeting and -- if you have already been issued it -- your abstract number.
