On the spatial and temporal variability of waves and fluxes

During April-May 1999, three Air-Sea Interaction Spar (ASIS) buoys were deployed in the Gulf of Mexico. Each ASIS buoy was equipped to measure turbulent momentum and buoyancy fluxes (via eddy correlation), along with mean meteorological and directional wave properties. The buoys were deployed in a triangular array, with 15km spacing, centred around a 3m NDBC discus buoy. Here, we quantify the variability (spatial and temporal) of the wind and wave fields, along with the fluxes, in the different conditions encountered during the experiment.
