NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RIVER FORECAST SYSTEM (NWSRFS) OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES FOR USING SHORT AND LONG RANGE PRECIPITATION FORECASTS AS INPUT TO ENSEMBLE STREAMFLOW PREDICTION (ESP)

Sanja Perica, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD; and J. C. Schaake and D. J. Seo

The National Weather Service produces many forecast products covering a wide range of forecast periods from the next few hours up to seasonal predictions for the next year. Procedures have been developed to use all existing operational precipitation forecasts to construct ensembles of basin average future precipitation for input to hydrologic forecast models. The existing procedures as well as current research to develop techniques for using information from global numerical weather model ensemble predictions will be reviewed
