Description:
The past decade has brought about significant advances in geostationary and polar-orbiting weather satellite technology word-wide. Specifically from NASA and NOAA, the GOES-R geostationary satellite series has revolutionized the way forecasters utilize satellite data in day-to-day operations, especially in the detection and tracking of rapidly evolving phenomenon. Similarly, information from the JPSS polar-orbiting satellite series are especially important for high-latitude forecasters where overall availability of meteorological data is sparse. This session will include speakers from a variety of operational backgrounds who will share examples of how GOES-R and JPSS satellite data have influenced operational forecasts and warning decisions. Further, talks will include the role of advanced satellite information in helping forecasters to provide quality impact-based decision support services for core partners.
