Joint Session 8 Preparing for and Responding to Weather Events in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Wednesday, 13 January 2021: 1:25 PM-2:00 PM

Description:

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered how communities across the nation prepared for, responded to, and recovered from weather threats. As social distancing guidelines and business closures became common across the nation, communities were forced to adapt to new normals and emerging threats. The weather enterprise rose to meet this challenge with unique private-public partnerships to support vulnerable outdoor testing sites managed by community health systems. This session will address special decision support services, community sheltering issues, and unique impacts caused by the coincidence of the COVID-19 pandemic with weather threats.
