Description:
The flux of energy and material across the air-sea interface couples the global atmosphere-ocean system. Understanding this exchange and the coupling mechanisms is critical to climate and environmental monitoring, as well as environmental prediction on local, synoptic, and global scales. Fundamentally, the study of air-sea fluxes is rooted in the experimental study of biogeochemical and physical processes at the molecular interface between air and water. This session will provide a forum for updating the community on the cutting edge of air-sea flux and gas exchange research, with a particular interest in contributions from recent or up-coming field campaigns (e.g. ATOMIC/EUREC4A, C-FOG, CLASI, MISO-BoB, YMC/PISTON, etc.). Numerical studies of air-sea interaction necessarily translate the information garnered from finite and disparate measurements into a broader context. We encourage submissions on the recent advances in air-sea coupled modeling. Our session aims to be broad in methodology and perspective, but with a focus on the air-sea coupling and exchange processes, studies featuring experimental (laboratory or field), numerical, and theoretical work are welcomed.
