Addressing Reinsurance Sector Needs for Climate Information in Support of the Inflation Reduction Act

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) provides authoritative climate data and information to support improved outcomes for government and the private sectors worldwide. As part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), NCEI is improving the ability of the Reinsurance and Finance Sector to uptake NOAA climate data and information that could lead to improved business processes, better-informed mitigation and planning, and enhancement to the national economy.

NCEI is also expanding its product suite in response to the needs of the sector. This presentation will focus on three main areas. The first is the research and development to operations and services process for addressing needs through new and improved products and services. The second is the new or improved data and information that will be available as a result of this work. The third is new tools that will be available to interface with the data and information to provide answers to known needs, as well as cloud-based delivery mechanisms. While primarily aimed at addressing Reinsurance needs, new data and information will be available freely and openly to all users.
