The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) established the Meteorology Panel under the ICAO Air Navigation Commission (ANC) in 2014 following a reorganization of the previous ICAO Air Navigation Bureau (ANB) Meteorology Division. As such, the ICAO ANC assigned Job Cards to the ICAO METP to govern its body of work.

The ICAO METP has developed Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) within the ICAO Annex 3, Meteorological Services for International Air Navigation, and the new Procedures for Air Navigation Services – Meteorology (PANS-MET). The ICAO METP has Job Cards for the continuous oversight of Global Space Weather (SWX) Services, the World Area Forecast Centres (WAFCs), the Secure Aviation Data Information Service (SADIS) and WAFS Internet File Service (WIFS), and the International Airways Volcano Watch (IAVW); the provision of information on sulphur dioxide from volcanic eruptions in the atmosphere; the development of aeronautical meteorological (MET) information to support Air Traffic Management (ATM) in the terminal area and of provisions for a Hazardous Weather Information Service (HWIS); the implementation of MET in System Wide Information Management (SWIM); and the development of cost-recovery implementation guidance and governance considerations. To achieve the goals set out in these Job Cards, the ICAO METP has four established Working Groups: the Working Group on MET Operations (WG-MOG), the Working Group on MET Requirements and Development (WG-MRAD), the Working Group on MET Information Exchange (WG-MIE), and the Working Group on MET Cost Recovery Governance and Guidance (WG-MCRGG).

This presentation will provide an update on the current status, progress, and future plans of the ICAO METP, including its Job Cards and Working Groups.
