Ballroom I (The Baltimore Convention Center)
Allyza Lustig, U.S. Global Change Research Program/ICF, Washington, DC; and A. Crimmins

Art x Climate was a first-of-its-kind call for climate-focused artwork to be featured in the National Climate Assessment (NCA). The US Global Change Research Program developed this call with the understanding that together, art and science move people to greater understanding and action. Art x Climate sought to expand the resonance and reach of the NCA and to demonstrate the power of art to advance the national conversation around climate change. The call received more than 800 submissions from across the country, including youth and adult artists. Of those, an expert jury selected 90 pieces for inclusion in the report.

This talk will detail the Art x Climate effort: why this project was needed, how it was conceived and implemented, and the artworks received. The talk will also describe the broader NCA5 engagement context surrounding Art x Climate. Feedback is welcome on potential next steps for Art x Climate and opportunities for continued work on art and scientific assessment.
