The Fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5) evaluates the effects of climate change on regions and sectors of the United States. NCA5 Chapter 30 - Hawai‘i and US-Affiliated Pacific Islands focuses on the impacts of climate change on (1) food and water resources, (2) human health, (3) infrastructure and local economies, (4) ecosystems and biodiversity, and (5) cultural resources. The chapter emphasizes the importance of Indigenous knowledge systems for island resilience, with several case studies throughout. The health sector is included in this chapter for the first time. Other featured topics include data inequities in the region, food security, wildfire, and blue carbon ecosystems. This assessment aims to provide the public with access to practical, usable information on how climate change affects them and will serve as an important resource for future adaptation planning and science communication.
