The Boulder Sun, Moon, and You Eclipse Viewing offers an awe-inspiring and community-based opportunity to experience the annular eclipse during CU Boulder’s annual Family Day. At these two events, NOAA will be teaching the public about eye safety, solar eclipses, and space weather, as well as how NOAA, National Science Foundation (NSF), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) work together to study the Sun. There will be scientists from the three agencies, NOAA Ambassadors, Ham Radio operators, and Astronomy experts that will be educating and engaging with the local communities.
For the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, we will take the lessons we learned from the 2023 events and use them to help guide us in our planning. As of now, our events for 2024 will be much larger, as a total solar eclipse is a far rarer occurrence. At that point, NOAA will be hosting the Sun, Moon, and You Eclipse Viewing event in Dallas, TX at the Fair Park Cotton Bowl stadium. NOAA will also be partnering with the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C. to host another solar eclipse event. Again, these two events will be focused on educating the public and helping them experience a safe and fun solar eclipse viewing event.
Overall, the Albuquerque and Boulder events of 2023, as well as the larger events planned for the April 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, are undoubtedly valuable opportunities to inspire and ignite a passion for science, space, and solar weather in the hearts of those who participate.
