The GXI will be the imager on the NOAA GeoXO geostationary satellites set for launch in the next decade. GXI will offer significant advances over the ABI on GOES-R. One of the notable improvements in the GXI is the inclusion of two additional water vapor sensitive channels. One is located in the 0.91 μm and the other at 5.2 μm. The 0.91 μm channel will provide information on the total amount of water vapor and the 5.2 μm channel offers information on water vapor from very low levels of the atmosphere. Coupled with the other water vapor sensing channels on GXI (1.38 μm, 6.2 μm, 6.9μm and 7.3μm), these 6 channels offer information on the profile of water vapor at very high temporal and spatial scales. This talk will discuss the activities being supported by GeoXO to prepare for the use of these channels, explore the applications of these channels and their use in conjunction with other GeoXO sensors.
