While there are many unique aspects to each National Weather Service (NWS) office, the location in Huntsville, AL (HUN) offers co-location with NASA Short-term Prediction and Research Transition Center (NASA SPoRT). While HUN focuses on forecast interpretation, creation, and communication, NASA SPoRT works to develop tools to aid in each step focusing on satellite and lightning applications.
In recent years, HUN and SPoRT have capitalized on the co-location by collaborating on the provision of Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS) to local emergency managers during planned events. For a few in-person events, SPoRT staff have deployed alongside NWS HUN to observe these interactions and make more informed product development decisions. This presentation will discuss how various SPoRT products, like the Lightning Stoplight, Lightning AI, and Flash Extent Density offerings in the Lightning Viewer and Streamflow AI assist in maintaining situational awareness and decision making for both remote and in-person IDSS.
