Julia Lockwood, MSC, Vancouver, BC, Canada

An overview of two key operational tools utilized by Aeronautical Meteorological Forecasters at the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) to issue aviation related forecast bulletins. The Aviation Weather Event Manager (AWEM) is an event-based graphical forecasting system which allows forecasters to create, modify, transmit, monitor and retire SIGMET and AIRMET events. The Terminal Aerodrome Forecast Editor (TAF-Editor) is a new production tool at MSC which allows forecasters to draft, verify, transmit, amend and cancel TAFs for Canadian airports. It also allows for the seamless integration of AutoTAFs into the aviation forecasters TAF writing routine. Both these tools are part of MSC's operational meteorological workstation, NinJo.
