The Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) is an interagency effort of the US Government to identify the Earth observation gaps and data needs across civilian US federal agencies. In rather short time-frames of 2 to 5 years, the SNWG effort, coordinated by NASA, formulates and implements a range of remote sensing-based solutions that benefit the entire Earth Science community. More than 20 such solutions are underway, with many of the solutions being operational. In this talk, we will present and discuss many of these solutions. For example, from the 2016 cycle, the Harmonized Landsat/Sentinel-2 (HLS) dataset is leveraging ESA and NASA/USGS satellite assets to achieve an unprecedented temporal resolution while maintaining the characteristics of the 40-year record of Landsat data. Further, we will present three solutions from the 2020 cycle that are related to atmosphere and air quality – near real-time products from the recently launched TEMPO mission, air quality forecasts enabled by expansion of the global network of Pandora sensors, and a Planetary Boundary Layer product merged from GNSS-RO and atmospheric sounder data – and the associated stakeholder engagement program that is implemented in close collaboration with the NASA SPoRT Center. This presentation will also include the solutions selected for implementation in the most recent SNWG cycle of 2022.
