America’s coasts are increasingly at risk from rising seas, changing water levels in the Great Lakes, and more frequent and intense storms. The Coastal Inundation Dashboard is a tool provided by the National Ocean Service Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services that provides real-time water levels, 48-hour forecasts of water levels, and historic flooding information. The Weather Ready Nation program at NOAA aims to enhance the coordination and communication of severe weather information to the government, emergency management, media, and partners. By integrating web camera feeds and impact graphics provided by web cameras into the Coastal Inundation Dashboard the stakeholders that use this product will have a clearer understanding of what inundation looks like in relation to the water levels provided to them and will therefore be able to plan for inundation events more accurately and effectively based on the insight provided to them. Integrating web cameras could also ensure that NOAA has visual representation of future flooding events. The first steps into integrating camera feeds was to identify candidates that would communicate the most information visually while being relatively close to a NOAA water level station. After these cameras were identified mock-ups of how they would be integrated into the dashboard were created.
