The new AI/ML-based approach to weather forecasting uses different techniques to generate exceptionally fast and performant forecasts based different weather datasets. This brings new capabilities that should be taken into account when planning weather and environmental services. The Canadian Centre for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction (CCMEP), within Environment and Climate Change Canada, is currently exploring various possibilities of using AI/ML methods in Research-Development-Operation activities.

This presentation will provide an insight into current and planned CCMEP discussions on the application of AI/ML to weather and environmental predictions.
