The recent explosion in generative AI, such as large language models like ChatGPT or image generation models, have fundamentally transformed the tools available to both students and faculty in the classroom. While the first fear of many faculty is that the students will only use AI to shortcut their learning, we show many ways in which AI can be used positively for both students and faculty. This panel will present lessons learned from several faculty and students about how AI can be used creatively and positively in the classroom. The panel will also share insights into how AI may influence future careers in atmospheric science, and how educators can better prepare students for AI-augmented jobs.
