Steve Volz, NOAA-Assistant Administrator for Satellite and Information Services (NESDIS), Silver Spring, MD

NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS) works to provide timely access to global environmental data, products, and services. These data and end user products promote and protect the Nation’s environment, security, economy and quality of life. This presentation will outline how NESDIS is supporting NOAA’s mission through innovative and interdisciplinary collaboration, calibrated and validated data curation, comprehensive data delivery and stewardship, effective private-public partnerships, strategic relationships across the globe, and coordinated future planning.

NOAA’s pursuit of a climate ready nation relies on NESDIS observational and data and information infrastructure and data stewardship to inform modeling, service delivery, and decision support tools. Meeting this need requires workforce transformation to improve cross-sectoral collaboration, and bringing diversity of perspectives and expertise to every challenge. User feedback is informing our next generation plans and our current investments, and inspires our work to expand data access to new communities. Through investments in satellite and IT infrastructure NESDIS envisions a coordinated NOAA system upgrade that integrates the full observing system in the cloud for improved delivery to all users.
