AMS 2024 Abstract:

Topic: Evolution of the Network Control Facility – Joshua Buchs (Joshua.S.Buchs@rtx.com)

The Raytheon Network Control Facility (NCF) is a critical support center that maintains the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS). AWIPS is a key component of the weather warning and forecasting operations of the National Weather Service (NWS) that continues to evolve to improve accuracy. As such, the NCF evolves to maintain and optimize support for the AWIPS platform.

With the evolving landscape, the NCF has added new tools to monitor the AWIPS platform as well as allowing the NCF engineers to communicate with the NWS forecasters and staff. To account for the changing technical support, the NCF shift staffing and hours has evolved to match those needs. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) have also been adjusted and added to account for the evolving tools, tasks, and requirements that the NCF performs daily.
