Engaging and building capacity of the public to enable climate action is vital to ensure that equitable solutions are developed to combat the causes and impacts of climate change. To ensure that the public is prepared for the scale of the climate crisis, the U.S. Federal government must implement a whole of government approach to address this crisis. Since the introduction of Executive Order 14008: Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad in 2021, federal departments and agencies have been tasked with addressing climate solutions and justice, leading to a vast expansion of society-focused climate programs. In 2023, the Fast Track Action Committee on Climate Services (FTAC) Report further expanded on the need for society-focused programs through implementing a framework for climate services across the federal government. This session will present the results of the 2024 inventory of 649 U.S. federal programs with a focus on Climate Resilience, Nature Based Solutions, Climate Services, Justice40 and Climate Engagement and Capacity-building (CEC) Programs. These programs are housed across 12 departments and 7 independent agencies and include programs from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This inventory will assist with coordination between the federal government and partners outside of the federal government and facilitate the sharing of best practices and resources. We share this information to support the critical work of engaging, preparing, and mobilizing communities for action on climate mitigation and adaptation.
