This talk provides an update on our research and development for atmospheric data assimilation with the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) and the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS). We report on several important advances: i) initial results for ensemble generation from the local ensemble transform Kalman filter (LETKF); ii) the addition of new observations to the system, including radiances from the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) and the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS); iii) further assimilation results with convection permitting resolution over part of the globe, using variable-resolution capability of MPAS; iv) refinements of all-sky assimilation in JEDI-MPAS.
