Intense temperature fluctuations at the synoptic scale can exert significant impacts on human health and agriculture, while also posing substantial challenges in energy management. To assess these fluctuations, we analyze the range of daily mean temperatures over a rolling timeframe using global land surface temperature data. Our findings reveal a discernible positive trend in temperature fluctuations, predominantly in Southern Hemisphere regions. In contrast, the trend exhibits notable variation in both magnitude and direction from region to region in the Northern Hemisphere. Reanalysis data are used to investigate the underlying causes of the trends.
