Technological adaptation and expanding modalities for content delivery have driven educators to engage students in new online capacities. This session builds on recent in-person active learning demonstration sessions by offering attendees the opportunity to directly participate in online active learning activities as well.
We invite submissions for demonstration of successfully-implemented online learning activities that attendees could implement in their own online environments. Demonstrations should be active, that is, the audience members should be encouraged to participate in them. Examples include but are not limited to synchronous collaborative activities over videoconference, computer programming training via a tool such as Jupyter Notebooks, or asynchronous web-based simulations or modules. The session will be conducted online, and each demonstrator will first have approximately two minutes to introduce their activity, its intended audience, and the learning context it fits into. Demonstrators will then simultaneously present their activities in online breakout rooms and participants can rotate through them.
Demonstrations should take no more than 13 minutes and should be accompanied by a supplementary link that outlines the activity for participants. We encourage making the learning activity material viewable before the session begins, to allow participants ample time to gain familiarity with any tools and their interfaces, although this is not a requirement for submission.
