Session 1 The Climate Services Value Chain: Presentations

Monday, 29 January 2024: 8:30 AM-10:00 AM
Key 10 (Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor)
Host: 28th Conference on Applied Climatology

The climate services value chain is comprised of 4 separate components - Data measurement and collection is the start of the chain. This is where meteorologists and climatologists gather data from a variety of sources, ranging from in-situ and remote sensing to modeled data. The second piece of the value chain is product or service development. This is where the value is added to the raw data and is typically tailored to meet the needs of specific stakeholder or user groups. From there, data delivery is the next step of the chain. This is an essential step for disseminating and communicating the products and services to the end user. The final step of the value chain is the end user using the service or product that was provided to them. This session will be a panel discussion, featuring experts from each step of the value chain. The panel discussion will provide an opportunity to promote successful examples of the value chain and also to identify gaps and offer solutions.
