Description:
Climate change has now been recognized as a potential issue for the Public Health Community to consider when looking for new pathogens and potential disease outbreaks. This session will consider how weather and climate modeling enabled by HPC will impact the Public Health Community's considerations with regard to both short-term effects, such as how weather events might engender local public health emergencies, and longer-term effects, including the effects of warming on disease processes, changes in encroachment of zoonotic vectors into human spaces, and even sea level rise. What is the benefit of collaboration between weather and climate modelers and the infectious disease and public health practitioners to enhance models of impacts and implications of weather and climate that can improve the appreciation of the Public Health Community of these impacts?
