Session Air quality insights from satellite retrievals

Description:

Satellite products of atmospheric composition are widely used in air quality research and operational systems. The TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) instrument launched in 2017 provides daily multi-constituent measurements globally at about 5 km2 spatial resolution. The next generation of geostationary satellite constellation for air quality provides retrievals at high spatiotemporal resolution. The Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) over Asia was launched in 2020 and the Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) mission over North America was launched in 2023. Various advancements in air quality research have been made with space-borne remote sensing instruments, including emission estimates, understanding chemical processes, and the development and evaluation of atmospheric chemistry models. In this session, we welcome all discussions about advancing our understanding on air quality and atmospheric composition and chemistry using satellites including but not limited to TROPOMI, GEMS, and TEMPO. Presentations on retrievals, validation, modeling, and applications are all welcomed.
