Description:
The Climate Adaptation Science Investigators Workgroup (CASI) is a partnership between NASA's Earth Science Division (ESD) and Office of Strategic Infrastructure (OSI) whose mission is to enhance climate resilience at NASA facilities. NASA centers across the nation are vulnerable to climate hazards that increase risks to operations, assets, and employee health. Managing these risks requires resilient solutions tailored to specific needs at each center. CASI co-produces hazard-based climate projections, tools, and products based on the latest science for each NASA facility, ensuring that center managers are equipped with accurate risk information for decision-making. CASI has also formed partnerships both internal and external to NASA, including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and NASA’s Office of the Chief Health and Safety Officer (OCHMO). The partnership with NREL involves contributing downscaled climate projections based on NASA Earth Exchange Global Daily Downscaled Projections (NEX GDDP) for the resiliency assessment at each NASA Center. The partnership with OCHMO is dedicated to protecting employee health from climate risks, namely heat and air quality.
CASI is comprised of different workgroups each focused on a specific area of risk, including Extreme Weather Events, Sea Level Rise, Fire and Air Quality, Water, Energy, and Ecosystems. This session would be hosted by the CASI Principal Investigator of CASI, Cynthia Rosenzweig, and include presentations from each of the CASI workgroups and leaders of the Earth Science Division and the Office of Strategic Infrastructure.
