Representation Matters. This session will highlight the work of the NSF-Funded Full STEAM Ahead program for underrepresented groups in the geoscience and social sciences. Despite a growing consensus that the lack of diversity in science presents an inequity requiring action, decades of research, policies, and projects have shown that diversifying science is not as simple as encouraging women and minorities to earn university degrees in STEM. The goal of this AMS session is to provide novel concepts to improve the career progression and sense of belonging in the geoscience and social sciences through an innovative, hybrid mentoring program. The session will highlight the NSF-funded Full STEAM Ahead Program, its achievements including the AI-generated mentor/mentee pairing process and direct testimonials from participants. This session is open to professionals at all stages of his/her/their career, with a focus on early career success strategies.
